  2. Steve Just Saying on December 4, 2019 at 5:15 pm

Really can’t believe everything on the internet. "Doctors" contradicting one another all the time. Numerous research over the past decades all suggested olive oil, (preferably the cold pressed extra virgin kind), is healthy for your heart and blood. "Studies have shown that a phytochemical in olive oil called hydroxytyrosol "thins" the blood. Other phytochemicals reduce inflammation of the blood vessels, prevent oxidation of fats in the bloodstream, protect blood vessel walls, and dilate the blood vessels for improved circulation…specifically, a group called phenolic compounds — promote good health."

  5. L CHGL on December 4, 2019 at 5:19 pm

What next from these same anti-fat gurus? Warnings against omega 3 supplements because the oil was "secreted"? It wouldn’t surprise me.

They can give their opinions all they want but the numerous scientific data on olive oil show that it is indeed healthful.

The high fat Mediterranean diet is considered by the independent (not paid off) scientific community to be THE healthiest diet in the world for a reason.

What is more unhealthy as a salad dressing ingredient, soybean oil or corn syrup? Also, what about fat-soluble vitamins being absorbed better due to oil in salad dressing?

Then why are those who incorporate EVO oil in their daily nutritional regime some of the most healthiest people on the planet? My people consume it daily and live long healthy lives. Something is out of joint.

As usual Dr Greger leaves out the information that isn’t supportive of his biases. In this case look at the abstract at 1:38. The conclusion says that canola oil is beneficial. Yet here is Greger saying don’t eat any oils just whole foods. Either quote the whole study or don’t use it Dr Greger. This is why I have to double check everything he says before I incorporate his recommendations into my diet.

Oils are not culprits oils are important nutrients. If your food is not supplying enough fats and oils then unproccessed raw fats and oils. If you have dry skin you are deficient

"Thus, numerous epidemiological, clinical and experimental studies suggested that the consistent intake of olive oil can limit oxidative damage and inflammation, thereby restoring endothelial function and slowing atherogenic development as well as aiding in the control of cardiovascular risk factors"

How odd that the Sardinians use olive oil on everything (comprising almost 50% of their calories sometimes) and they’re a Blue Zone. They also consume goat’s milk and cheese.

Then there’s the Nicoyans in Costa Rica..they drink raw cow’s milk, eat raw cheeses and eat eggs every single morning. Oh, and they fry their plantains in olive oil…(it’s a Spanish thing..my family is Cuban and olive oil rules the day…)

Then there’s the Okinawans..they eat pork in addition to their sweet potatoes…as in fact ALL of the Blue Zoners do except for the vegan and vegetarian Seventh Day Adventists…they eat fish.

It must really chap vegan hides that others can live to 122 – like the French record holder did – by eating 3 eggs PER DAY…. And she smoked to 115! Eeeek!

Of course, the one thing they all have in common is they eat CLEAN, WHOLE, FRESH AND UNADULTERATED foods with no chemicals or pollution. No GMO junk (except for the soy Frankenfoods the 7th Day Adventists eat) . No pesticides. Clean air and water. Real food from clean animals that don’t have hormones and antibiotics injected into them. And they move constantly. I’d guess their level of exercise plays a huge part in it all. That’s one thing Americans will not, or cannot, do. We like our couches way too much.

  20. C Triumbari on December 4, 2019 at 5:37 pm

Man vegans are the biggest pussies in the world, they might as well eat nothing because they’re so scared. Olive oil has Many healthy properties such as anti Antioxidants and inflammatory properties. I really do wonder what in the hell these so called vegan experts eat in a day.no meat or eggs, most breads and grains are off the table, cashews and now olive oil. Ridiculous vegan agenda.people actually by into this crap.

People in Europe have been eating this diet for generations and live into their 80’s and 90’s. You can rag on olive oil all you want but the proof is in the lives of those who ingest the diet.

  30. xia kala on December 4, 2019 at 5:51 pm

The thing we all forget about "the healthiest diets" is the everyday life of the people who originally followed them. Sure the mediterranean diet or the Okinawa diet are amazing but as a Greek if I decide to follow the Okinawa diet most of my food would be highly processed, cause the products naturally grown or produced here are totally different. That’s why eating fish for example in any mediterranean country is so different from any other fish in the world. Foods are different because the ecosystem from place to place is so different! Even if all goods from elsewhere are imported, still not the same in taste or nutrients. Ramen soup in Greece totally different than same ingredient ramen in London or Tokyo! (Tokyo definitely wins!)

  31. Yakov Butterfield on December 4, 2019 at 5:52 pm

On average Israeli live 14 years longer because of a mainly Plant based diet of fresh salads, legume based dips such as Humus and not eating a lot of Meat, Chicken and Fish.

  32. David Mcgregor on December 4, 2019 at 5:52 pm

At the conclusion of this video it stated that the Mediterranean diet is healthy because it is largely whole plants foods based so if you took the fish and animal foods included and the olive oil away I am confident that all those who follow the Mediterranean diet would still live long healthy lives. Recent in Japan where they don’t consume olive oil a man died who was 114 years old and that diet would of been mainly whole plants foods based so this provides evidence that you don’t need oil’s to live a long life.

  33. alexander 323 konstantinos on December 4, 2019 at 5:52 pm

Does Mr. Mcgregor look healthy to you? Of coarse not! Dont follow this joker’s advice. Pure olive oil is the secret to the blue zones of Icaria and Crete. They have been healthy for 50000 years!

If the case is fibers? So, add veg and flax seed to the meal and use oil.

Greger is a clown. Show me the facts.

  38. Eidann63 on December 4, 2019 at 5:56 pm

That’s right; continue to spread the lies. Did anyone see the movie: "Lorenzo’s Oil?" The oil which is now preventing and "slowing down" the process of this rare neurological disease consists of two properties within the following two oils (in a 4:1 ratio) Olive Oil and Rapeseed Oil. Don’t believe this new "trend" to put away healthy natural cold pressed oils; there’s no money for the medical community if you’re healthy.

  39. Mehdi BEN CHEHIDA on December 4, 2019 at 5:56 pm

The secret of the mediterranean diet is not the oil, and to be frank, we don’t eat that many veggies as Dr Gregee thinks. What all studies overlook when it comes to the MD is that we use at least one full tablespoon of the best spices you can find on earth. Try to see how many anti oxidants a 1/4 tsp of cloves or basil dried parsley oregano coriander and all those spices provide and you’ll understand.

  40. Ted Teddy on December 4, 2019 at 5:56 pm

I understand people live long who have been eating all of oil forever but have they had any heart attacks have they had atherosclerosis right hardening of the arteries? That’s what the doctors are trying to say I think

  41. jackgoldman1 on December 4, 2019 at 5:57 pm

Is this opinion or fact? Where is the data?

  42. Renato Мedellin on December 4, 2019 at 5:57 pm

The main contradiction within science in modern era is that it is placed within a capitalist system where wealth accumilation dictates over everything, even reason itself.

In order for this to be overcome every single human possible must be involved within the scientific community, quite literally becoming scientists themselves to some degree or another, and the people must be allowed to have access to every and all the resources and the instruments of science necessary for the discovery of new knowledge. Science means nothing if it is knowledge that is being passed down by an individual or small groups of people whom may have monetary interests or who are simply bias. When we are all involved this allows for greater sums of information (whether right or wrong) to be acknolwded and tested. Conflict will then start to ensue which will be necessary to create an even more perfect and pure form of knowledge.

Science will then have to be democratic and this type of democracy will have to be scientific.

I Know one thing. Im Greek and i put Olive oil in every food. And I mean every single food. My grandmams lived up to 95 and 92 doing the same thing. My grandads lived up to 83 and 78(that one was a heavy smoker from the age of 12). My parents are close to their 70s with perfect health. Me and my wife and daughter are raised to have olive oil in all of our foods. Lots of it… Facts, just facts… Olive oil was and is pure health since the ancient times!

I come from a mediterranean country we make our own olive oil here as many do, I did quit adding olive oil to salads and and other dishes and I have to say I felt much lighter and better ever since, not as in I lost weight but as in I feel like my blood flows much better, I am more energetic, and I take longer to get tired, it’s like I am 5 years younger, I only add olive oil to dough for pizza now to keep it from sticking to the tray, and for greasing doors and we also make soap from it
