But he could have just been tired after each run his energy went down along with his time. His shoes may not have made such a difference. Better to have ran with the boots first and then seen if his time improved when wearing the "faster" shoes.

Independent variable is also called the manipulated variable

Dependent variable is also called the responding variable

For those like me who were taught using those terms, there’s a translation to avoid confusion. Same ideas.

So basically and independent variable is something you change each time you repeat the experiment? I also didn’t quite understand what a dependent variable is.

who’s here cause they were forced by their teacher to watch this video as an assignment?

  36. Nikolai Ostropolsky on April 20, 2020 at 10:21 am

Very clear explanation but, is this experiment even possible?
When he ran with the running shoes he was fresh, not tired. With the casual shoes perhaps a little, and with the boots very tired because he already ran 2 times before. Could this be another controlled variable? How could I make this experiment fair?
What about his psychological state in each? His concentration? The sweat in his feet, the wind, a bug that passed by, and one could go on..

In the end, is this science?

I think I got it right based on your video. Thank you for simplifying these concepts. Hopefully I ace my exam. I will be checking back for more videos to help me out. I subscribed too!
