Superfoods: The Real Story

This is a bit of a rant. I despise when well-meaning people are tricked by slick advertising into spending their hard-earned funds.

So I unload on the gimmicky “superfoods” a bit and give you my opinion of what SuperFoods really are and when/how we should eat them.

Tell me what you think about my take on superfoods please…
Do you think corporations should be allowed to market these “superfoods” directly to minors?

I wonder about wheat grass powder? I actually like the taste but I’m probably just wasting my money on it!

  6. Kris Smith on February 14, 2020 at 8:26 pm

Thank you! A question, CBD Oils and Pot are becoming the new super "medicine" that fixes everything. I am interested in what you think about CBD’s and pot as medicine. Thank you!

  7. Richard Mathews on February 14, 2020 at 8:28 pm

My super foods are sardines and eggs. Liver is a super food, but I just can’t bring myself to eat it, I blame it on childhood trauma. But crap foods trump super foods, so don’t think you can make up for the crap you are eating with a "super" food.

  8. Gerald Boff on February 14, 2020 at 8:29 pm

Dr. Watch your program on YouTube every one of them several times to absorb all that I’ve seen every day I spend 2 to 3 hours a night in the garage just listening and paying attention you’re a wonderful man. I can’t thank you enough for all the changes you made my life. The 19 years since I dated and I’m looking for a new girlfriend.

  10. Patricia Nunez on February 14, 2020 at 8:31 pm

You are so honest, real, sincere and knowledgeable. You have been a great help to me on Keto…2 weeks now. Not losing pounds but inches and pain in my feet greatly relieved. Thank you so much.

  11. HerrFinsternis on February 14, 2020 at 8:34 pm

Agreed on all counts. The only superfood related product you’ll ever need is a superfood cookbook written by people who know their sh*t.

And even then… Ones you’ve been eating meals consisting of nothing but superfoods for a week it doesn’t really matter anymore what you throw together. It will all be delicious and when you are eating what you need at that exact moment in time, it’s even more delicious. Your body knows best, follow your gut and sense of smell when shopping.

Good, I always think the same. 👍👍

  13. vicki moraw on February 14, 2020 at 8:37 pm

Dr. Berry why do all of the free range eggs at my nice gro store have blood specks? When I was growing up my grandparents eggs didn’t on their farm. Chicken are guinea eggs. I know they are ok to eat because they are fresh and I cook them I just don’t like it and they are three times the price of reg eggs.

  14. Mary Lynch on February 14, 2020 at 8:37 pm

  16. Steve Harris on February 14, 2020 at 8:39 pm

My wife and I used to drink a green powder called Barley Green. Mix a teaspoon of it with a glass of water, hold your breath and chug it down. I felt I’d just finished cutting the grass. But, I did think it was a healthy way to put some ‘green’ nutrients into my body when my normal diet wasn’t doing it. Do you have any experience with ‘green’ products like this, Dr. Ken?

  17. ronald rabating on February 14, 2020 at 8:41 pm

Is it my taste buds because eggs have very little taste even bland w/out loading them w tons of sauted Veggies.. The pasture raised do have a slight better taste but not much. What am I doing wrong. Seems like I’ve tried almost everything to luv eggs but just isn’t happening.

  26. 你這個 on February 14, 2020 at 8:50 pm

Dr eric berg sells lots of products

  27. Chris Tice on February 14, 2020 at 8:50 pm

I’m a patron and I agree with some of what you say but keep in mind there are many nutrients not found in food but in herbs etc that make all the difference when taken in conjunction with a good keto diet. I would rather you not paint with such a large brush.

  28. Cat T on February 14, 2020 at 8:51 pm

"Everyday I think people should eat nothing but superfoods." That’s what you said but what about the keto diet? You have to have meat as well? And fats. Are meat and fats superfoods? I think not. Not to be overly critical here Dr. Berry, but I think you really need to think about what you’re going to say before you say it.

  29. CJ Hagg on February 14, 2020 at 8:51 pm

I get the impression people are buying the "product superfoods’ thinking it will offset the sugary and fried junk they are eating more of than they realize.

  30. Nathan Niyazov on February 14, 2020 at 8:53 pm

    Cough cough ** dr axe

  31. Amine USA on February 14, 2020 at 8:53 pm

    Well said Doctor! Thank you

  32. Aatif Rathod on February 14, 2020 at 8:54 pm

Hahaha no joke I just watched a commercial for a “superfood” shake before this video. 😂😂

  33. David Negrete on February 14, 2020 at 8:54 pm

I agree eating these vegetables "superfoods" is going to the most beneficial of options. I like superfood supplements like Amazing Grass Superfood. I believe using these are best if your diet isn’t involving enough vegetables. Again, recognizing it’s a supplement and not going to be as beneficial as eating the real thing. Similar to a multivitamin. Do beware of these new companies advertising these supplements as something new and selling for $60 or more.

  34. Pattie McDonough on February 14, 2020 at 8:56 pm

What do you think about Dr Bergs line of healthy products ?

  35. Vobe S on February 14, 2020 at 8:59 pm

  36. Stef Diaz Diaz on February 14, 2020 at 9:00 pm

liver, fish row, grass fed butter/milk, oyster: those may be "super" foods, at least nutritious as fuck!

  37. Sharon Kuehnel on February 14, 2020 at 9:01 pm

    Great honest video. Thanks !!!

  38. Huan Dz on February 14, 2020 at 9:02 pm

  39. KathysBeautyCareChats on February 14, 2020 at 9:04 pm

Soooo true! The best superfoods are natural and from above and cost nothing extra!! Love your channel!

  40. O O on February 14, 2020 at 9:04 pm

There’s no such thing as superfoods. It’s a sales hype. It’s a trendy term to use. Eat local, eat healthful, eat Keto. All the other crap on the supermarket shelves is just that. CRAP!

  41. quicktastic on February 14, 2020 at 9:06 pm

Vitameatavegamin was a very good supplement, they never should’ve banned it.

  42. Roland P on February 14, 2020 at 9:08 pm

So Ur tellin me that Dr Bergs volcano grown wheatgrass powder for 4*average market prices is not a superfood?

  43. QuentinBridgeforthtv on February 14, 2020 at 9:09 pm

I just want you to find evidence, such as a study or paper, that supports your claims because most of this video is just unsupported opinion.

  44. Shiva Pazoki on February 14, 2020 at 9:10 pm

So refreshing to find someone on the social media platform who doesnot push you to buy another "magic solution"!

  45. hamstersniffer on February 14, 2020 at 9:11 pm

My retina doctor told me my best hope of preserving my sight was to lose the body fat and eat lots of basic nutrient rich foods, lots of dark green and red veggies and wholesome fats, not junk fats, no inflammatory foods.

  46. Man from Nantucket on February 14, 2020 at 9:12 pm

Ashwagandha, spiralina, maca and brewer’s yeast. Mix that together in a glass of water an knock it down. Tastes awful but it works

    At wasting my money

  47. Turquoise E on February 14, 2020 at 9:12 pm

Dr Berry, you are so under appreciated. Thank you for caring

  48. Linda Bragg on February 14, 2020 at 9:13 pm

Yes if a doctor really cares for his patients and people, he will not be selling these supplements that have all kinds of bad ingredients in them. I have bought these items and in the end they never work. True good food works. Stay away from the processed stuff.

  49. Belinda Phillips on February 14, 2020 at 9:14 pm

I remember when chia was a pet.I can’t believe people eat it now hahaha
